Little Known Facts about Princess Mononoke.



• The original film title was going to be Ashitaka Sekki (The Tale of Ashitaka)(я удивлена,что его изменили.)
• The singer of the original Japanese Mononoke Him main them was actually a man. O_o
• Yakul isn’t a real animal (*sighs*) but it was based on a yak and was taken from an earlier manga by Hayao Miyazaki in the early 1980’s called Shuna no Tabi (The Journey of Shuna) which many scenes of Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind are alike.
• Ashitaka was an orphan(оно заметно...)
• In Fuedal Japan, cutting someone’s hair meant they were dead, so when Ashitaka cut his hair, it meant that he was dead to the village and could never return even if he succeeded with finding a cure.
• The girl from Ashitaka's village that gave him the knife was not really his sister. 'Older
brother' is supposed to be a title of respect and he was also Ashitaka’s fiancé (wow, look at the age difference)(да,я знаю))
• The knife that Ashitaka recieved is called 'gyoku no kogatana' and symbolizes eternal love, hence it's importance when given to San (парень,ты попал )

• Ashitaka is so remorseful after killing the soldiers on the way to the first village because he never shot to kill (if you noticed his line of, “I resolved after I let my arrow fly” really meant, it was his choice and his chance, and that he didn’t want to do it again). He was aiming for the soldier's sword, but his cursed arm flared up and
pulled his aim off.
• The soldiers before the village mistake Ashitaka for a high-ranking soldier because only they
could wear helmets and Ashitaka's hood resembled a helmet(...наивные чукчи))
• Gillian Anderson has been a long-time fan of Myazaki! All right, go Scully! *wootage*
• "Mononoke" is actually a type of ghost in Japanese culture. The Mononoke was told to be a poltergeist that inhabited inatimate objects- for example- stones, trees, and walls. So therefore "Mononoke Hime" very loosely translated would be "Ghost Princess".
• Did you know that Moro has two tails? I did. You can easily spot it when San pats the side of Moro before she jumps back on the wolf and says, “Leave.”( мило ^___^)
• They don’t even mention the wolf cubs names! I’m sort of thinking since San means three, the other two might be other words of “One” and “Two” ( любопытно...)
• Lady Eboshi's coat is really a man's coat- not a kimono; it shows her importance (дааа,в кимоно,знаете,так не побегаешь)))

• The forest spirit's stripe on his face change color to show if he will save a life or take one(не обращала внимания на это,кстати).
• Did you know that Osa has no arms or legs? He lost them when some chemicals blew up( 0____0 мама...)
• Do you know why the mouths of the gods are moving that strange way? One theory is that they are in their regular talk (growls, squeals etc.) and only San (after years of experience) and Ashitaka (since he is part “demon”) can understand. If you noticed in the scene where Jiko and the hunters are spying on Lord Okkoto and the boars heading their way. They’re only squealing. But this theory can be put down. If they’re gods—or part of the god’s tribe—then they can speak human language. This is still a mystery.
